 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1.) When will my child’s practice start? * A. The AYSO season starts in August. You & your child will be notified by his/her coach once coaches have received their team packet and signed up for a practice time & field. If you have registered for the fall season and have not been contacted by a coach by August 23, 2008, please email info@kiheiayso.org or call 870-2280.
2.) My child has never played soccer before, can he still sign up? * A. Yes. AYSO is based on the “Everyone Plays” motto. Please see our homepage
3.) I would like to help, but I’ve never coached before, and I don’t know much about soccer; can I still help? * A. Yes, you can still help. Many of our coaches started out this way…Kihei AYSO provides free training & resources to all new and returning coaches each year, the only requirement is a desire to have fun and to interact with your child.
4.) I would like to sponsor; where do I send the check? A. Contact any board member, $350 for team sponsorship ( $250 for returning sponsors) .
5.) Why can’t my child be on the same team as her best friend? * A. An important philosophy of ASYO is to have BALANCED teams.
For us at Kihei AYSO, that means that no team has all the “skilled” players and other teams have all the “unskilled” players. We spread them out among all the teams. For that reason, we cannot guarantee that your child will play on the same team as her best friend.
6.) We cannot make the set practice times; can my child still play on the team? * A. Yes, but that may not be the best experience for your child or his teammates. Please contact the registrar to see what options are available.
7.) When will my child receive his/her uniform? * A. The team parent will dispense uniforms prior to first the scheduled match.
8.) What are the registration fees are there scholarships available? * A. Registration fees are $75.00 per child, $65.00 for each additional child in immediate family. Scholarships are available and based on need. Please see any board member for more information and to apply.
9.) Where and when will my child’s matches be played? * A. Matches are played on Saturdays. All U-5, U-6 & U-8 matches will be played at Kalama Park.
U-10, U-12 & U-14 will have home games played at Kalama Park and will travel to Kahului, Upcountry, Lahaina & Napili for away matches. The season is September through November, but each age group starts at different times. Your team parent has more information.
10.) I watch a lot of professional soccer and the crowds really yell at the referees & coaches…, I do that here… its part of soccer, right? * A. Wrong. Harassment, heckling, and taunting have no place in AYSO. AYSO strives to teach good sportsmanship at EVERY level: players, coaches, parents and other supporters and we need your help to do so. Since all AYSO coaches & referees are usually parents just like you, they deserve your respect and support. They volunteer their time to help make your child’s soccer experience a positive one. We expect all our parents to support them. If you have any concerns, please contact the Regional Referee Administrator. See Parent Code of Conduct.
11.) What does my child need to bring to practice? * A. Soccer shoes, shin guards, a soccer ball, and water.
12) We registered, now what? * A. Please check our website for up-dated information and wait to be contacted by your child’s coach.
